Kablys + Kultūra (Kaunas str. 5, Vilnius)
It is said that Frank Zappa’s facial features resemble M. K. Čiurlionis… Zappa’s spirit has indeed found a place in Lithuania – there is even a monument dedicated to him in the Naujamiestis district of Vilnius. However, we have decided to give Zappa a non-monumental look. The iconic Frank Zappa is probably most associated with the alternative rock scene during the 1970s. He was a talented multi-instrumentalist, interested in avant-garde art practices, and his work was greatly influenced by such contemporary music creators as E. Varèse, P. Boulez or A. Schoenberg. It is interesting that Zappa’s catalogue also includes works for wind instruments, so the chamber ensemble of the Lithuanian Symphony Wind Orchestra has prepared a novel programme for the club, Kablys + Kultura, which will be presented by one of the most prominent interpreters of contemporary music in Lithuania – the orchestra’s chief conductor, Karolis Variakojis.
